Disabled Veteran Information

We can't thank you enough for your service and sacrifices. Here are a couple of helpful items that we wanted to share for our disabled Veterans. Please let us know if you know of any additional things to add.

VA Mortgage Funding Fee

The VA funding fee is waived for Veterans who are 10% or more disabled. There is some minor documentation that the lender will have to get back from VA regarding this, but it is a very simple process.

Property Tax Exemptions

Disabled Veterans are eligible for additional property tax exemptions which results in lower or no property tax. Veterans that are 100% disabled qualify for an exemption

to waive their primary residence property taxes in Texas. You will have to complete the necessary paperwork for the exemptions.

Here is where you can find the Collin County disabled Veteran application:

Texas Veteran Land Board Rate Reduction

Veterans that are 30% or more disabled can qualify for a half percent rate reduction on the Texas Veteran Land Board program. For more information go to:

The Hazlewood Act (Educational)

Wartime Veterans who were legal residents of Texas at the time they entered military service and Home of Record is listed as Texas on the DD214 are entitled to a waiver of tuition and some fees at State-supported / public (taxpayer supported) colleges and universities. This benefit is also available to children of Texas servicemen and women who died or were killed in military service, and

to children of Texas military personnel who are shown to be missing in action or prisoners of war. Also eligible are children of members of the Texas National Guard or the Texas Air National Guard killed since January 1, 1946, while on active duty either in service of Texas or the United States.

Veterans Memorial Park

6053 Weiskopf Avenue

McKinney, TX 75070

Veterans Memorial Park in McKinney is located on a half-

acre site in Van Tuyl Plaza at Craig Ranch. It features a Wall of Honor with the inscribed names of Collin County servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives in defense of our freedom, while it honors all Veterans. A lighted American flag flies 24 hours a day over the wall. A fountain at the base of the flagpole symbolically waters Shumard Red Oak trees (water restrictions allowing) representing each branch of the Armed Services. A ribbon-like walkway extends from one end to the other.
